BLUFF.
At the last ordinary meeting of the Borough Council the Town Clerk was instructed to sue for all rates owing for the past two years, and unpaid at 10 a.m. on the 12th inst. The brick addition to the Southland Freezing Co.’s works, enclosing one of the new boilers, is nearly finished The Hon. J. G. Ward has decided to increase the storage space at the Ocean Beach works to a very large extent. The improvements contemplated will provide occupation for a number of men, and arc to be put in hand at once. The official enquiry into the cause of the Manapouri mishap was held at the courthouse on the 4th inst, before Mr Rawson, R.M., with Captain J.B. Greig as nautical assessor. The Court approved of the captai i’s navigation of the steamer, entirely exonerated him from blame, and recommended that signals should be employed to indicate the movements of small craft when in occupation of the channel. The Tyser Line’s s.s. Celtic King, with part general cargo from London, arrived at this port from Wanganui on Thursday. She will load general cargo and frozen mutton and after coaling will sail for London direct. The weather continues very wet and tempestuous, and vessels are able to make very little progress with the loading and discharging of cargoes.
