Country News
0 T A U T A U. Trade for the past week has been somewhat dull, but that may be partly due to the inclemency of the weather. Still, our little town is progressing. Mr R. K. Thomson, who had been for some time managing for the late Win. Broad, has now started on his own account, which shows he has some confidence in our district. Mr F. Henry’s sawmill started work to-day, and we have now two mills in full swing here. Mr Beer passed through here to-day on his way to the Waiau with the boat he built for the ferry there, and which the settlers have been anxiously waiting for in order to get building material across. One of the new settlers, Mr King from Fortrose, passed through here to-day to commence work. The Wallace County Council has at last voted £4OO to renew the bridge over the Otautau stream, and not before it was necessary, as an accident might occur any day. July 19.
