HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS.

The weather experienced on the Queen’s Birthday, both here and in other parts of the colony, was a mixture of good and bad, but there was enough sun for the greater part of the day to enable holiday-makers to get some enjoyment out of it. Subjoined will be found a summary of the various events that engaged attention on the 24th, which was of course welcomed with the usual salute by the voluntcers. The evenings of Tuesday and Wednesday were devoted by a number of our local amateurs to a highly praiseworthy object—the performance of a drama entitled “British Bofn ” for the benefit of Mr R. B. Wotton, whose services have never been wanting at Mr Rifl by that by appe men on the Winton racecourseon tb(e Queen’s Birthday attracted a fair attendance, and served to make up for the lack of the, race meeting usually held on that dayThe Winton band was present, and added materially to the pleasure of the throng. The programme consisted of horse races and pedestrian events, and was carried out under the management of twe following officebearers: —President: Mr E. R. Kidd; VicePresident : Mr A. Gerrard; Treasurer, Mr R» G. Findlay; Secretary, Mr M. O’Brien; Judge, Mr W. Keith ; Starter, Mr A. Gerrard; Clerk of the Course, Mr Shaw; Clerk of the Scales, Mr J. Wilson.
