BLUFF.

A Salvation Army wedding took place on the 12th iust., and this ceremony being a novel occurrence in the Bluff, was witnessed by a large number of people. The event was celebrated by a monster tea meating. The Masons of Lodge Fortitude celebrated their anniversary by the usual annual ball, held in the Drill Hall on Tuesday evening. About eighty couples were in attendance, and dancing was kept up with great enthusiasm till an early hour in the morning. The hall was tastefully decorated with ferns and flags, and some very pretty dresses added a further charm to the proceedings. The music was furnished by Mr Black. The supper table was under the control of Mr Kingsland, who acquitted himself in a satisfactory manner. Messrs Findlay and Davies made efficient and agreeable M.C.’s. The sailing races which were postponed at Easter, were sailed off on Wednesday, and resulted as follows: —First class sailing race, course of seven miles, first prize £3, second £1 10s. Won by Wilson’s Maori Girl, with McQuarrie’s Slvjo second, close up. Second class sailing race, course of four miles, six entries, first prize £2, second £l, third 10s. Won by Preston’s N yin phi a, with Reed’s Midget second, and Waddel’s Swallow third. A start has been made at the foundation of the new church, and the work will be pushed on while the fine weather continues. The holiday passed off very quietly, owing to the day being rather cold and damp we had not many visitors. The local attractions were a football match, and the boat races.
