GORE.

The usual fortnightly sheep and cattle sale was held on Tuesday, when a decided improvement was manifested bidding being spirited, and prices above those ruling lately. We were favoured with good weather for the Queen’s Birthday, and it was observed in real holiday style. Numbers left in the early morning for duck and pigeon shooting, and returned with fair hags. The volunteers mustered in good force, and fired a feu-de-joie. Three ringing cheers were given for HexMajesty, after which the company was disxxxissed. Very complete arrangements had beexx made to fire a number of xxxatches for all-comers, and the townspeople having donated about sixty prizes, a very enjoyable day was spent on the range. There were about fifty entries, and the two targets were kept going continxxally froxxxll a.m. to 5 p.nx. There were three xxxatches, in each of which there were ten prizes with five moneyprizes added, and also an aggregate match with, the same number of prizes. Sixteen citizens were successful in carrying off prizes against 24 in the volunteers, the highest aggregate being Mr D. A. Purvis with 47, including a handicap of 4 points. A friendly xxxatch was also fired by nine citizens against a like nuxxxber of volunteers, resulting in a win for the latter by 36 points. The day was wound up by a very successful volunteer re-xxnion, the Town Hall being packed. The volunteers are to be congratulated for the very complete arrangements made for the day’s entertainment —not a hitch occurred.
