GORE NEWS.
A pleasing ceremony took place at the railway station lately, when a number of employees met to present Mr Andrew Graham, who lias filled the position of stationmaster here for the past six years, with a handsome gold albert and locket as a mark of the esteem in which he is held. The presentation was made by Mr S. F. Whitcembe, district traffic manager, who, in a few words expressed regret at Mr Graham’s departure, and hoped the change to a more genial clime would be beneficial to his health. In returning thanks, Mr Graham said he was pleased to find that during his connection of twelve years with the Southland section lie had merited their goodwill, and thanked them for the handsome present, which would remind him of many pleasant associations in Gore and Southland. Mr Graham, who was also the recipient of a very handsome address from the members of Lodge Harvey, through the W.M., Bro. Carroll, left by Monday’s express. His successor, Mr Brebner, according to the Napier Telegraph, was the recipient of a handsome Gladstone bag as a token of the esteem in which he was held hy the staff. Mr Brebner is not a stranger to Gore, having filled the position at Clinton for some time, and we welcome him back to Southland, and feel sure he will be a worthy successor to Mr Graham.
Mr Gr. W. 'Wood, Otama, who is leaving the colony, held a most successful clearing sale on Tuesday. Mr A.. J. Peasewielded the hammer, and succeeded in disposing of everything at tiptop prices. The horses were a fine upstanding lot, and prices ranged from £ls 5s for the favourite buggy mare to £25 10s for draughts'. Mr Wood went to some trouble and expense in putting the farm implements in good order, and the prices obtained Justified the outlay. The farm was sold privately to Mr Smith at £7 per acre. Business places continue to multiply. Messrs J. and W. McGraw, builders and architects, finding their trade increasing have opened an office in Main street, next the fire bell tower. Mr J.
