AUSTRALIAN.
The inter-colonial eight-oared race between crews representing Queensland, Victoria, and New South Wales was rowed on the 13th inst., the -oarsmen of New South Wales winning
easily. The Queensland National Bank, the Bank of North Queensland, the Federal Building, Land, and Investment Society, the Permanent Building and Benefit Society (Brisbane), and the Oommei’cial Banking Co. (Sydney), have suspended payment. Late advices state that the Royal Bank of Queensland and the City of Melbourne Bank have also been •compelled to suspend payment. May 17 was obsexwed as a day of humiliation in Melbourne, and special services wei’e held in the churches.
