~We are Laving a long spell o£ dry weather. For the last week there has been a thick fog over the district, ceming on at sunset and continuing some days till noon. The roads are in very fair order, and I must compliment the County Council and Road Board in attending to. repairs so early in the year, hut would point out what we consider a dangerous place on the Waikaka Valley road at the bottom of the hill near . Johnston’s, where there is a deep culvert. As the road has Avorn very narrow it would be easy on a dark night to meet Avith a serious accident. A feAV loads of gravel on each side would make it right. The fire bell tower is at last to be erected. The foundations (concrete) are laid, and we' hope soon to see the structure finished. The soiree to Avelcome the neAV pastel" of the Wesleyan Church, the Rev. Mr Tinsley, Avas held on Tuesday night in the OddfelloAvs’ Hall, when there. Avas a fair, attendance. The tables Avcre laden with good things, and presided over, by the ladies -of the congregation. During the evening addresses were gWen by the Revs. Tinsley, Asher, LeAvis and Mr Gardiner, Avhile capital music was rendered by the choir. The fortnightly sheep sale Avas held on Tuesday last, Avhen a large number of sheep Avere forward. Prices were lower, very feAV sheep changing hands. The folloAving are the neAV school committees elected here; Gore : Rey. LeAvis, Dr Copland, and Messrs Beattie, Lovell, Turnbull, Fryer, "Velvin, Martin and Toogood. Dr Copland was elected Chairman, and Mr A. Martin secretary. East Gore : Messrs A. McKinnon, B. D. Bust, J. Mac Gibbon, F. McKay, A. Aitken, J. A. Forbes, and W. A. Me Caw, Mr McCuav being appointed chairman, and Mr Bust secretary and treasurer.
