GENERAL STOCK REPORT.

Store sheep are now in demand for turnips, and farmers arc selling off their fat sheep and culls. The price for fat sheep is kept up by the opening which, the freezing works always afford. At the same time many buyers of reezers are putting the sheep on turnips, waiting till the works can take them in. That, however, does not affect the market to any great extent, excepting that it may prevent this class being run after. There arc not many lambs offering. Good lambs are worth from 8s to 9s. Cattle.—Tat cattle are very plentiful, and a large ruraibcr of prime are coming forward. The market being over supplied, the price has receded slightly. Inferior are selling at very low prices. A pen from the Orepuki district, offered at the yards on Tuesday, fetched up to £8 15s per head. Store cattle are in fair demand.

Horses.—The Prince of Wales yards last Saturday presented a scene of unusual activity. Farmers from almost all parts of Southland ■were there, having taken advantage of the special railway inducements. One of the best entries seen for years was that of last Saturday, when Mr W. A. Lyon’s Victorian heavy draught horses were offered and all sold. The best animals brought from £23 to £2B, and several buyers from the Western District were fortunate in securing good horses from the lot. Ms John Walker, of Limestone Plains, and several others not far from him bought all the best. Some first-class locally-bred horses were offered, and sold at prices comparing very favourably with the those imported, one of Mr George Young’s fetching £26,105. A first-class contractor’s team was passed in unsold at from £23 to £25.
