GENERAL STOCK. REPORT. Fat sheep, including freezers, are in good demand, ewes and wethers bringing from 12s 6d to 14s 6d. The Wairio sale, held on Wednesday was pretty slow. Fat lambs are at a discoupt now owing to the freezing works having stopped taking them in. Notwithstanding this, a few found buyers at the yards at from 9s to 10b 6d each. In store sheep, store wethers and good young ewes are wanted for turnip feeding. The price for these keeps ■fairly firm at from 10s 6d to 13s sd. Old ewes, except for boiling down purposes, are almost unsaleable. Fat cattle did not go so well at the Junction yards last Tuesday, the prices fetched. showing a drop from those of a few weeks hack. Bullocks ranged in price from £8 5s to £8 10s; cows from £3 15s to £7 2s 6d. A good demand exists fer store cattle at reasonable rates. For pigs an extra good demand has sprung up, and before long long there should be, more activity in the pig market. Good medium sized, not too heavy, should readily bring 4d per lb., heavy weights from 3ld to 3*d. Part of the freezing machinery of the Star of England has broken down at Wellington, hut it is to he hoped that repairs will ho speedily effected, as the local works are now pretty well filled with frozen carcasses. The starting of the Matauru freezing works this week should help graziers in the eastern district to get clear of their sheep. These works will drain sheep from Tapanui and Clinton districts, down as far as the Wyndham and Fortroso districts.
