EDUCATION BOARD. • Friday, April 8. The monthly meeting was attended by Messrs D. L. Mathesbn, R. M‘Nab, G. M‘Leod, Gi. Froggatt, J. W. Bain, A. Baldey, T. Mac Gibbon, and J. Mackintosh. The first business was the election of chairman for the ensuing year-. — Mr Froggatt was the only gentleman proposed, and was declared duly elected, and thanked the members for the honour they had conferred upon him. The following appointments were made :—Mr J. H. Gray, head teacher,
Fernhills ; Miss J. M. Scott, mistress, Dipton ; Mr E. Fisher, head teacher, Waikawa Falls : Miss C. Ridland, pupil teacher, Otatara Bush, and Miss C. jMcLeod, mistress. South Public school. Tenders were accepted for the following works : —Residence at Mandeville, J. P. Peterson, £l5B 10s : residence at Wen don Valley, A. P. Schmidt, £122; residence and shelter shed at Oreti Plains, J. Howie, £97 10s ; painting and repairs at North Forest Hill, R. Corson, £7 18s ; repairs at Woodlands, A. P. Schmidt, £4l ; [painting at Drummond, £lO. Tenders were ordered to be invited for works at Limehills, Mimihau, Makarewa, Tuturau, Orepuki, and Nightcaps ; applications [for works at Greenhills and Scott’s Gap, were granted ; and the carpenter was instructed to report on applicatious foxworks at Invei-cax-gill South, -and the Bluff. It was resolved to ask the Mace-
town Committee if Jtlie teacher would be prepared to occupy a new residence if such wre erected. The Cardrona Committee were granted £3 towards cost of fencing. An additional grant of £5 was voted to the Gore Committee for certain small works. The matter of erecting a teacher’s residence at Flints Bush was held over, the teacher meanwhile to be given a rent allowance at the rate of £l2 a 'year, an amendment by Mr Baldey to the effect that the previous resolution of the Board to erect the residence he adhered to, being lost. Tenders were ordered to be called for the lease of section 354, Taringatura. Me the application for an addition to the school building at Winton, it was decided to .invite the committee to state any fresh circumstances which may have arisen since the matter was last before the Board, which would justify a re-consideration of the application. It was reported that Messrs Donovan and Barry had secured the lease of the Orepuki school glebe at the upset premium, viz : £2lO. At the instance of Mr Mackintosh it was decided to forward plans and specifications of alterations or additions to buildings for consideration by committees before calling j for tenders.
