WANAKA.

This beautiful and truly alpine district is now becoming known to the wealthy and pleasure seeking class of the Australian eolonics and of Europe, thanks to the enterprise of E. McDougall and Sons, who some nine months ago sot in motion that excellent and effective steamboat, the Theodore. Almost any day you may now meet in the town of Pembroke, which is situate at the southern end of the lake, people from Queensland, New South Wales, Adelaide, England, Scotland, Ireland, and the continent of Europe, on pleasure bent, and what a wealth of it is there spread out before them! Some day, I daresay, another Sir Walter Scott will arise who will here find a profusion of material for his pen, varying in character from the majestic to the milder forms of Nature’s grandeur, amidst which his gifted mind may revel. The excellent climate and hotel accommodation of this district are solid factors also in contributing to the health and pleasure of the visitor. Its climate and scenery undoubtedly form a splendid asset and it is to be hoped that the energetic owners of our steamer will be sufficiently rewarded in their endeavour to realise it. Hotels crowded, local trade stimulated, and the advantages individually to local residents, from contact with people fresh from the great centres of the globe, arc among the benefits arising from tourist traffic, which is increasing every year.
