CHIEF ENGINEER LAUDS DE LUXE.
WESTERN ELECTRIC OFFICIAL'S STATEMENT. In an interview with a Chronicle representative ,to-day, Mr W. A. McCutcheon, Director and Chief Engineer of the Western Electric Company, (N.Z.) Ltd., expressed himself as being delighted with i ; ie talkie reproduction at the De Luxe Theatre, Leviu. ACOUST.'CS FERFECT. "Levin is foitunate in having such an acoustically correct theatre," said Mr McC.uteheon, "as the quality of reproduction is dependent, -to a certain extent, upon ;ne design of the auditorium. The particular advantages of the De luxe I'icatre make it possible to give Levin and Horowhenua theatre-goers the same excellent talkies Uiat equipped theatres in the largest cities. GOOD REPRODUCTION ESSENTIAL. "The De Luxe Theatre is the fortieth house in New Zealand to be equipped with a Western Electric Sound System which, more clearly than anything else, points out that present day talkies are not successful unless they are reproduced to the best advantage. The novelty of synchronized sound nas worn off and it takes the best co-opera-tion of science and showmanship to attract the public. Mr Kerridge realizes that country audiences are the most discriminating and he has had in'tailed the finest equipment procurable to keep his programmes to the highest point of perfection." UNIFORM TALKIES.
"Our tests and observations of this installation show us that our equipment is functioning correctly and that the talkies may be presented as well as in any other theatre in the Dominion. Every theatre that we equip is the object of an intensive study as to its acoustical properties and our engineers do not leave the job until the reproduction is at its best. After the installation work our Service Department keeps a constant watch on the equipment so that the various delicate adjustments of its parts remain in their intended positions. The audience benefits because its enjoyment/ of talkies depends entirely upon clear reproduction, which is so/wel 1 exemplified at the De Luxe Theatre."
