A CHRISTMAS DINNER.

'At Whitanui, Ltd., cookhouse, on Thursday night, the caterers, Mr and Mrs J. Martin, entertained the management and boarders to Christmas dinner. A most sumptuous and plentiful repast loaded the tables. The diningroom was tastefully decorated, and all the guests had their fill of good things to eat and drink. Toasts were drank with musical honours, and song and music enlivened a couple of most enjoyable hours. Mr Mason proposed the toast of "The King"; Mr Davey, "Our Host and Hostess," replied to by Mr Martin; Mr Cullen, "Whitanui, Ltd.," Mr Thompson replying; Mr Thompson, "Our Oldest Identity," replied to by Mr Cullen; Mr Mason, "The Cookhouse Staff," replied to by MiMitchell; Mr Thompson, "Men of the Drainage Board," replied to by Mr Tucker. Items were rendered by Messrs Reader, Hiring Read, Robinson and Thornton. Mrs Davey sang, and also played the accompaniments.
