THE FIELDS AT ELLERSLIE.

So far as the Boxing Day meetings are concerned, the most important one, from a racing point of view, is the opening of the .Auckland Eaeing Club's summer meeting at Ellerslie. It is a fourday fixture opening on Thursday and continuing on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of next Aveek. The event of chief interest is the Auckland Cup, of 3000 sovs., (2 miles), which, with the G.N. Foal Stakes, is included on the first day's programme. The G.N. Derby, or 3000 . sovs., is set down for decision on Wednesday next, New Year day. A healthy list of acceptances have been received by the *lub and interesting racing should result. Following is the programme: —

QUEEN'S PL.aj.-JW, 1 mile.

Form in the opening event at Ellerslie is represented in Kaha, Eichfield Storm Fiend, Kawainga, Count Palatine, Eoyal Parade and Vali 'and of this collection a pair that will carry good support is Eichfield and Storm Fiend.

GREAT NOETHEEN FOAL STAKES, of 1250 sovs.; 6 furlongs.

Royal Euler, Gesture, Praise and Princess Betty are winners of races in their class this season, while Chrysology, a son of Desert Gold, and Cylin der have shown considerable promise: Eoyal Euler's form at th« earlier pari of the season was first class but two who have done better since are: Praise EOBINSON HANDICAP, 7 furlongs.

There are four acceptors over the safety number in this event but.it is likely that a division will be avoided. Over half the field are on the minimum mark and almost anything has a chance. Two whose prospects are .enhanced by their recent displays are Roman Pearl and Valuation.

AUCKLAND CUP, of 3000 sovs.; 2 miles.

This race, which carries with it the richest prize offered for any handicap in the Dominion, is set down for decision on Thursday next. With few exceptions, Chide and Nightmarch, the field represents all that is best in respect of staying qualities and this event in itself should provide spectators with ideal racing. Space does not permit of a full review of the performances of the individual contestants but at this stage the fancied trio are Concentrate, Paq.uito and Prodice. GRAFTON HURDLES, 2 miles.

The pair which have the form to recommend them in this event are Pangolin and Catonian. RAILWAY HANDICAP, of 1250 sovs.:

more reliable this season and he has a reasonable poundage with 9.2 in thi? field. Toxcuma, Lady Quex and Great Star have a good following while Leitrim will be a dangerous one on the bottom mark. The public, however, may leave it to Cimabue and Lady Quex. NURSERY HANDICAP, 5 furlongs.

This event will be of interest because of the first appearance of Dunraven, a brother to Limerick. Reports from the South credit him with being in good order for the trip. Tenterdcn, if started in this race, will have to be considered while a recent winner in Awaken is a possibility. Dunraveu and Awaken may do best. CHRISTMAS HANDICAP, 1 mile.

winner, Pegaway, is asked to give Eaglet 221bs. He is a champion performer at a mile but it looks as if weight will beat him on this occasion. Eaglet reads well placed while The Hawk and Prince Val have claims for support. The recovery dividend may come from Prince Val or Eaglet.
