FINE UNDERWORLD STORY. A powerful, dynamic story of, the underworld that rings of authenticity. “The Tip Off,” a Universal thrill feature, starring William Cody, opens at the Maoriland Theatre on Wednesday. The story is about the determination of two underworld characters to go straight and was written by Basil Dickey, a writer who unquestionably knows his underworld. It moves With rapidity, in thrilling scenes and tense situations, to the death of an informer, who, when it came to a showdown, could not turn liis pals over to the police, and' who died that they might go free. William Cody as Jimmie Lamp, one of the crooks ivlio determines to go straight; George Hackathorne, as the informer, and Duane Thompson as Jimmie’s sweetheart, who is also loved by Hackathorne, share equal honors in the production. The acting of these three clever artists is at' all times convincing and natural.
“STOLEN PLEASURES).” “A drama of foolish wives and husbands.” That’s what they call the new Columbia -screen production released by Master Pictures, -“Stolen Pleasures,” which comes to Shannon on Friday. There are many foolish wives and husbands, in this vale . of tears and they all have different reasons for their follies.' The primary cause, however, is said to be jealously —founded or unfounded —and it is on this theme that Leah Baird, well known short story and magazine writer, wrote the story of “Stolen Pleasures.” Written by its author as a cleverly knotted tale of coincidence and circumstance involving two mairied couples, and a professional “he vamp,” it has lost none of its suspense and dramatic interest by its transfer to the screen. Columbia Pictures have been succeeded in that rare feat of gilding the lily and have made of it one of their best pictures this season.
