NEW BUTTER FACTORY FOR SHANNON.
SHANNON DAIRY COMPANY’S
PLANS,
TENDERS NOW BEING CALLED,
Everything is now in readiness to proceed with the erection of the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co.’s new factory and tenders are being called, closing on Saturday, 7tli December. Our representative was yesterday morning shown the plans of the proposed new building, which when completed will prove a very fine structure. It will be built of concrete with a rough-cast finish, with windows along both sides giving a splendid lighted interior. The principal dimensions are approximately 106 feet long by 52 feet, with walls 16ft. high. The construction is to be of such a nature that anyone standing on the receiving stage can get a clear view of the whole of the interior right through. In other words the cream enters at the front of the building and can be seen passing through, the different stages of manufacture until it reaches the finished product. That is the box of butter going out of the cool store to be shipped overseas Verandahs are provided over the front and back of the building for protection of cream from the weatkei and there will be a good concrete roadway round the building. The boiler house and coal bunkers are situated just outside the main building, but access is cained by a covered way. A feature of the new work will be the system of drainage enabling the floor to be kept free of water, a great asset where wa-
ter is freely used. Machinery, embodying the latest improvements in the industry, will .be installed, which makes for a saving of time and running costs. The building allows for extension at any time, should this be necessary, but as now designed it will be able to cope with a 2000-ton output. With the number of new dairy farms coming into existence in this district, there is every prospect of this amount being reached at a not far distant date. The factory will stand back a distance of over fifty yards from Stafford Street, and will be situated between the company’s store and „.the buttermaker’s residence. The time for completion i 3 in the month of May next year, and the new factory will. , thus be ready to deal with next season’s output.
