GENERAL. It was resolved that the two permanent casual roadmen be" paid for all statutory holidays. On behalf of the Shannon School Committee, Cr. Hyde applied for the use of the Domain on Saturday, 14th December, for the purpose of holding school sports, and also the right to make a charge. —The request wa3 granted. In connection with the growth of grass on the sides of the main streets in the Borough, Cr. Hyde said he though it would be a good thing if the Council purchased a strong mowing machine and they would then be able to keep the igrass cut in some of the streets. It could also be used in the Domain, and it would be the means of tidying up the town a good lot; thus preventing the grass from getting away. It was pointed out to Cr. Hyde that the rough state of the sides of the roads at present would only allow of a very small portion of road where the mower could be used. The Council were of opinion that the sides of the roads should be ploughed and levelled before any attempt should be made to use a mowing machine on them. This work could not be done at present owing to the hard state of the roads and it was decided the matter be brought forward again at some suit-' able time.

Accounts totalling £146 18s lid were then passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
