FOUR YEARS' SACRIFICE.

MAN HELPED BY FIANCEE. A woman 's sacriiice for her sweetheart has just had a happy ending at Swansea. Five years ago, when Miss Gladys Traske, a pretty Swansea girl, became en gaged to" Harold Boyd, he was a labourer, earning less than £1 a week. To-day ho has obtained an important position in a commercial house at a balmy of £IOOO a year with prospect? of early advancement. He now sneaks two languages fluently, knows shorthand, and is an authority on commercial law. And ho owes it all to Miss Traske.

How his success has been brought about has been told by Miss Traske. " When we became engaged/'' she said, "I decided that the man 1 was going to marry should not have to -.struggle along to support a wife, and possibly children, on a labourer's wages.

"Harold had always struck me as an unusually intelligent man, but he had never had a chance to become decently educated. I, therefore, decided to go to work to provide him with money so that he could engage a tutor and better himself."

For four years Miss Traske worked, and each week she gave her fiance the money to pay for his education. She took a job as a -waitress in the daytime; in the evening she gave dancing lessons. Onco, when she lost her job in a cafe, she was reduced to taking in washing and sewing. But she never failed her fiance. Every week the money for his education was there. "1 almost worked my lingers to the bone," Miss Traske said. "But it ha.s been worth it,"

Twelve months ago Harold obtained a j)ost with a commercial firm. He showed such aptitude and organising skill that within a few months ho was

marked out for promotion. He hay now been appointed manager of one of the.firm's most important branches, .and is to share his good fortune with his sweetheart, who sacrificed so much for him, by marrying her. "I owe

her everything," he says. "But foilier I would still be a labourer struggling along on a few shillings a week. It has been worth waiting for."
