WATER FOR OHAU FARMS.

ELECTRIC PUMPING SCHEME AUTHORISED. At the Horowhenua County Council meeting on Saturday last, a petition was received from the five Ohau ratepayers interested, asking the Council to levy a special works rate of Id in the £1 on their properties, as an annually recurring rate for a period of live years, to provide the cost of installing a water supply scheme to serve their properties in accordance with the Comity Engineer's estimate of £185; also to levy a rate of l-10d in the £ annually to provide the charges for electric power for the scheme, and for incidental repairs or attention that might be necessary for the maintenance of the undertaking. The petition, which was presented by Cr. Colquhoun, was signed by Messrs G. F. Anyan, D. V. Brown, A,. S. Easton, J. Frew and E. R. Vickers. The County Clerk stated that the petitioners were all the ratepayers in the area to be served.

Or. Colquhoun moved and Cr. Jensen seconded, that the request be acceded to and the work carried out immediately. The question was asked by Cr. Colquhoun whether any of the applicants would be at liberty to pay off their liability at any time. "Yes," replied the chairman, "we would not mind that." The motion was carried, and the chairman stated that the work would be gone on with to-day. .
