CRICKET.

SHANNON v. PARAPARAUMU. The newly formed Shannon Cricket Club played their first match on Saturday when they met Paraparaumu at the latter place. Although they suffered defeat by 66 runs they put up a very good showing, considering that they have had very little practice as the Club was only formed about two weeks ago. The members of the team are all young players and no doubt as the season progresses they will give a good account of themselves. On Saturday the bowling of E. Weggery, who took five of their wickets for ten runs and the batting of Webber, who compiled 69 run s of their opponents’ 136, brought about their downfall} | For Shannon, Picard 10 runs and Mabev 11 runs, were the only batsmen to reach double figures, , while Picard proved the most successful bowler by securing five wickets for 38 runs.
