CUPID’S RECORD YEAR

THE WORLD’S MARRIAGES. This year will be a world-wide record year for marriage. That is the opinion of a Continental authority, Dr Wagner. In addition to “social and economic” factors which are to contribute to the record, he is of opinion that men are now very eager to wed. The previous record year all over the world was 1920,-when the increase over ihe average pre-war year was estimated at nearly 100 per cent. Boys who have grown up during and since the war have not “inherited” any anti-marriage tendencies or bachelor inclinations. Whereas before the war, even in such countries as Germany, only about 40 or 45 men out oi a thousand entered into matrimony, the present average is nearly 60. Girls are also showing greater inclination toward marriage than before the war, and the percentage of wives who arc younger is increasing. Judging by international statistics, the popularity of middle-aged women—past 30 —is on the increase, and in tluma jori tv of eases they wed young men.
