THE PRACTICAL GIFT-LIST

WEDDING PRESENTATIONS,

A new and very practical wedding present fashion has recently been inaugurated by the friends of a society couple, who are by no means too well endowed with this world's goods. Feeling that the couple should have a borne furnished and equipped in the style to which they had been accustomed, their friends decided that bridal gifts'might well contribute to that end. Therefore they suggested to the bride that she should visit certain furnishing an.! other firms, where the stock was likely to be to her individual taste, and indicate to the proprietors which article would be acceptable to her. This was done. Goods were selected from serviettes to a settee, from a knife-rest to a kitchen cabinet, and lists were marie accordingly for presentation to potential donors. A little committee of "intimates" informed other acquaintances of bride and bridegroom of the plan, and, in consequence, very few superfluous gifts found their way to the new home.

Result: No greater expenditure than would have been involved had a number of unwelcome presents been chosen; a beautifully equipped home; no white elephants; mutual satisfaction en the part of donors and recipients.

We have had the co-operation prosent, and we have had lists compiled without reference to actual objects seen at specific shops, but this last and most practical venture eclipses any scheme hitherto formulated. If a trifle -prosiac, it is so remarkably efficient that it certainly deserves to be more widely followed. Why should the future home of a couple, with,well-defined taste and verydistinct likes and dislikes, be complicated at the outset by an array of unsuitable gifts?
