SCHOOL BOOKS.

NO MORE CHANGE FOR FIVE YEARS. The effect of the new syllabus on the books used in the primary schools was referred to in the House of Representatives on Friday. Pointing out that quite a number of unauthorised school books were recently introduced into the schools, Mr. R. A. Wright (Wellington Suburbs) said that the parents were involved in fincreased expense and were complaining that they had to buy new books before the others hai worn out. Ho inquired whether it would be possible under the new syllabus to bring in any more unauthorised books.

The Minister replied that although unauthorised books had been introduced, teachers were now confined to books on the authorised list. It wfis expected that the books would remain tm* changed for five years.
