BOWLING.

FOXTON GREEN OPENED. Favoured with ideal weather, the official opening of the Foxton Bowling Club's green and croquet courts, held on Wednesday afternoon, was a most successful land enjoyable function. There was a good attendance of visiting bowlers and the general public, together with wisiting croquet players,, and the Club's grounds presented a gay and animated appearance. Mr Heyes (president) declared the croquet court open for play, and in doing so, expressed pleasure at seeing so many present. He referred to the presence of the Eev. Isaacson, president of the Manawatu Croquet Centre, whom he introduced to the assemblage. The Eev. Isaacson extended congratulations to the Croquet Club on being favoured with such excellent weather, and wished the Club a successful season.

In prefacing his declaration in connection with the bowling green, the President extended the usual welcome to visitors and members, and then referred to the good work that had been done by a number of local bowlers in the preparation of the green for tha opening. Mrs Heyes, wife of the President, threw the first jack, and Mr C. Spring, a life member of the Club, played the first bowJ, the cerempny, concluding with applause. 1 The bowling green was in first-class playing condition for the time of the year, visitors and local players alike remarking upon its excellence. (Seven rinks were occupied, and some good play and tough battles were witnessed. , . .

Shannon: 21; Foxton Hinds, Jas. Ross, Fred Robinson, Christie (s) 20. Bulls: 32; Foxton, Easton, Parkin, Howe, R. Bryant (s) 20. At the conclusion of play Mr Sherwood (Levin) returned thanks on behalf of visiting bowlers, and wished the Foxton Club a most successful season. Cheers were exchanged, and a special cheer given for the ladies.

ON THE CROQUET GREEN. Wednesday's opening was one of the best that the Foxton Club has experienced. Visitors were present from Manawatu, Northern,. Bulls, Levin, Shannon, and Otaki Clubs and the function was most successful. Rev. C. 11. Isaacson, of Otaki, president of the Manawatu Croquet Centre, played the first ball after the green had been officially declared open'for play by the President of the Bowling Club (Mr W. S. Heyes). During the afternoon various competitions were held which resulted as follows:

Golf' croquet, Mrs Bagrie (Levin); target croquet, Mrs Mayes (Northern); French croquet, Rev. C. H. Isaacson (Otaki). ■•'.'■'■ Among the visitors present was Mrs Gambrill, the newly-appointed official handicapper for the Manawatu Croquet Association. v
