ROAD IMPROVEMENT.
WORK OF HIGHWAYS BOARD. .A repoft presented at the last meeting of the Main Highways Board stated that the following works were in progress on the Wellington-Auckland (yia Taranaki) route: — Horokiwi Valley to Paekakariki: A bad corner at 26 miles 32 chains was being taken further back; and was 75 per cent, complete; 33 chains of fencing had been erected. The turning place at the summit had been completed. Hutt County—Paekakariki to Waikanao: Two miles of bituminous emulsion surfacing had been applied. Horowhenua County—Manakau to Levin: The construction .of the Waikawa bridge had been started. Nine reinforced concrete piles had been driven.
On the Wellington-Napier (via Wairarapa) road, works were shown to be in progress as follow: Akatarawa Junction to Summit, Rimutaka: Sealing work; nine chains was prepared for sealing, and 82 chains of first coat bituminous emulsion and 10 chains of second coat were applied. Curves were being built up where necessary, and widening was in progress on the Rimutaka Hill.
Wellington-Napier, via Wairarapa (No. 10 Highway District): Ruamahanga bridge to Falkner’s bridge, widening and culverting were in progress.
