MAORILAND THEATRE.
“THE CRASH.” The complications that ensue when a rough-and-ready railroad wrecking crew boss marries a show girl can readily be imagined. Such is the situation in the First National picture, '“The Crash,” wjhich conies to the Maorilaud Theatre on Saturday. Milton Sills is starred in the picture as the wrecking boss, while charming A Thelma Todd i 3 cast ;as the chorus girl. Others in the cast include William Demarest, Wade Boteler, Yola d’Avril, De Witt Jennings and Fred Warren. The story provides plenty of dramatic action, a train wreck, thrilling runs of the wrecking train to the scene and not a little comedy, inspired by Director Edward Ciine, for years one of the leading comedy directors of the industry.
“THE MATINEE IDOL.” There are plenty of laughs in store for those who attend the local theatre during the showing of Columbia Master pictures “The Matinee Idol” on Monday. It is cue of the funniest comedies to be shown here in some months. The picture relates tire adventures of a company of “ham” actors which attempts to show Broadway a few things about acting and meets with defeat, Between hilarious scenes there are touches of pathos and heartaches as the brave little heroine fights'odds to convince the blase New Yorkers that she and her company .are producing a dramatic masterpiece. When she “bawls” out the first night audience there is N an uproar of laughter. An appealing love interest is interwoven in the plot between Ginger, portrayed by Bessie Love; and the blackface comedian, a role assumed by Johnnie Walker. The scenes between the . two provide much humour.
