RACING FIXTURES.

Sept. 21.—-Ashburton County R.C. Sept. 21, 23.—Avondale J.C. Sept. 26, 27. —Geraldine R.C. Sept. 28.—Hawke’s Bay J.C. HISTORIC AND PADDON MEET AT AVONDALE. GOOD FIELD IN PRINCIPAL HANDICAP. (By Silken Rein). Last year the racing at Wellington and Riecarton provided a. good guide for speculators in connection with the Avondale Cup, which- incidentally has been reduced this season to a mile and a quarter, the Parliamentary Handicap and Winter Cup winner, Bisox, scoring a comfortable victory on that occasion. The daughter of Bisogn.e had the benefit of winter racing on her side and on that account those among this field which were good winners during the past three months are being confidently looked to to win. this event to-morrow. Historic and Pacldon are the pair which are generally being held in highest respect, the former for his promising win in the Winter Cup and the latter for liis runaway, victory in the Whyte Memoir: ia! Handicap. Historic was an absentee at Trentham and Paddbn was missing from the big mile -ace at Rieearlon and, as the pair have not yet met to try conclusions, which is the better of the ;two is the subject of many friendly arguments. The fact that there is every likelihood of the track being oil the firm side Historic is finding a little more, favour than Paddon at the present time, but which will, be favourite on \the day will depend a good deal on circumstances. While the ; pair discussed above,, are the ruling favourites there are a number of well-forward runners included in the field which are quite likely to upset public calculation. By his running at Wanganui Star Stranger impressed as •one likely to get on the winning list shortly while the A.J.C. Derby winner, Prince Humphrey, who ran second to Laughing Prince recently, is find" ing favour. Proclice was a good three-year-old filly and is to have her first outing of the season to-morrow, while she will be considered by the public tjo be in need of a face, her owner-train-er F. E. Loomb has every confidence in his Catmint filly- She would prefer a soft track. Barometer’s three wins on end wilr earn-respect and High Pitch, by winning the Parliamentary Handicap at Trentham in July last, is worth some consideration. Singleton and Hyde Park are fair with a preference for the former. Piuthair lias come into the market by her second to Kick Off at Wanganui and if she is back to her best, she will be dangerous. Pakuranga form points strongly, to King Emerald who now meets Barometer on 151bs better terms and Higd. Pitch is also in receipt of 20lbs better from Barometer. On those figures,* if the spring weights are in their favour. King Emerald and High Pitch must be given a. chance. Queen Arch and The Lover have no recent form for recommendation and True Blood’s best is a fourth in the principal. race at Pakuranga. Taueriri has had winter racing, having won the first division of the Jervois Handicap at Auckland and latter running second to Paddon in the Whyte Memorial. If there is a surprise in store it may come from High Pitch, but the prime fancies on the day will be Historic and Paddon. THE OPEN SIX FURLONG HANDICAP.

GOLD MONEY AND EAGLET ARE EARLY FAVOURITES. The second event of importance _at Avondale to-morrow is the Flying Stakes which promises to he an interesting race. By reason of her winning performance at Martom and Wanganui the three-year-old 'filly, Eaglet, has been made the early favourite* for this handicap, while she also rules prime fancy for the classic race on Monday. A good performer last year as a three-year-old, Gold Money, v/ho opened the season with a third to Flying Prince and Paddon at Pakuranga, is also in demand. There appears at present very little between this paiiy though Eaglet, if not withdrawn to be reserved for the Guineas, should, with a good get-away, be able to hold- her own against Gold Money and the rest. On that point of position, however, she may not be' in luck. Benzora is not fancied to any large degree but Silvermine, who started off well with a fourth at Wanganui is a distinct possibility. The son of Catmint-Silvei Link is a speedy customer when at the top. of his form. The majority of the others, with their lack of recent form, will have to be taken on trust more or less; ' The Begum is one who usually races well when fresh. An improved hack on the minimum Knightlike, who it has been mentioned before, is likely to turn out a useful stake-earner this season, must be given a chance after his Wanganui performances. He should improve a good deal on that racing and he reads as the ' one likely to trouble Eaglet and Gold Money. MINOR EVENTS UNDER REVIEW. The acceptances for the minor events are particularly good in respect of numbers and id has been found necessary to run the Maiden Plate in two divisions. The first division should see good performances coming from Mountain Guide and Measurer, while in the second division Crimestor and Fraser read best. Kingsland Hurdles. The hurdle race has drawn fifteen runners and bears a fairly open, aspect. Sir Archie whose flat form has been good and who has been jumping well

in his private essays is being expected to put up a good performance to-mor-row. Glena Boy, who ran second at Marton and Master Rowley, who finished In a similar place at Pakurangn make a stronger appeal however. Members Handicap.

With twenty runners in the Member’s Handicap, this should provide a good race. Flying Prince, by reason of his win at Pakuranga, will be much sought after, while Dave who ran. fourth behind him at that fixture, is a possibility. The latter may not be fancied as well as Leader, whose form at the Grand National meeting is. entitled to much respect. Oration is a likely one on his Taranaki and Marton -performances and Value is said to be shaping well. One with winter racing in his favour who will be hard to rtisDose' of to-morrow is Marble King. He* ran second, third and first in the three days at Trenthaui in July. The pair that appeal arc Flying Prince and King RmerahL Avondale Stakes. The youngsters’ race has drawn, a field which for numbers is nearly the same as that of the Maiden Plate and it may mean a division if all go to the post. There is a number of promising two-year-olds in work on the northern tracks, who may come to liglP but on Wanganui form, Isa and Foot Rule are the pair that will be supported. Swanson Handicap. In the mile rac-e, the form'at Pakuranga points strongly to Sea Cob and Motere, and if Mountain Guide is reserved for this race he also, is entitled to consideration after his showing at the Hunt fixture. Henderson Handicap. In the concluding-event a quartette which will be in demand are Amon, Maori Boy, True Blood and Arikitoa and the best of these may prove to be Maori Boy and Arilcitoa.
