VEN BEDE'S CHURCH.

INSTITUTION OF NEW VICAR.

On Wednesday evening there was a big congregation at Ven. Bede's Church, when Archdeacon Johnston, of Wellington, conducted the institution service on the occasion of Rev. A. G. Young, formerly of Raglan, succeeding Rev. A. J, Farnell as vicar of the parochial district of Shannon. He was assisted by Rev. Mr Abbott, of Terrace End, a previous vicar. The service opened with the hymn "The Church's One Foundation." After the letters of institution, as issued by the Bishop of Wellington, had been delivered and the Vicar had received the blessing of the Archdeacon, the hvmn "Come Holy Ghost, our Souls Inspire" was sung,: all kneeling. ~ Archdeacon Johnston, af\er expressing pleasure at theapresence of Rev. Mr Abbott, preached a very .inspiring sermon from the text "Feed my Sheep," during which he emphasised that the work of a vicar was particularly that of a shepherd. Referring to the new vicar the Archdeacon, mentioned that he had been a school teacher for many years, ; but after the Great War had attended college in England where he was ordained, the speaker pointing out that he was not a young man when he took Holy Orders, this step being taken as the result of aiuch thought. The preacher then proceeded to trace the foundation./ of the church during which he referred to past vicars of Ven. Bede's. In conclusion he said he glad to see so many who had come to pray for the new Vicar and his work, which showed a willingness to assist him in his labours and he made a special appeal for their cooperation in the Sunday School work.
