GUIDE MOVEMENT.

To be linked up with one of the finest movements in the worM to-day is in itself an achievement and this assuredly was the case as regards the township of Shannon yesterday afternoon when the enrolment of the first Shannon company of Girl Guides took place in the Institute .Rooms. The ceremony of enrolling was taken by Miss Kebbell, District Commissioner, assisted by Miss J. Mawhiney (Palmerston JSTorth). - Visiting Guiders also present were:—Miss M. Sim'(Palmerston North), Miss M. Poole and Miss B. Gower (Foxton). The attendance of the public was exceptionally goad, many present being interested parents and friends of the guides.' Miss Kebbell briefly addressed the girls, stressing the importance of the Guide law, the great essentials being contained in the following verse: —

Honest, loyal, helpful, Friendly, courteous, kind; Obedient," cheerful, thrifty, As pure as the rustling wind,

At the conclusion of the ceremony the President (Mrs •Clifford-Jones) commented on the result of weeks of preparation and labour. They were most o T ateful to Miss Kebbell for her assistance and it was gratifying to see ether guidera present. Ou behalf of the committee she thanked the public for attending, thereby showing their interest and support. To Misses Todd and D. Clifford-Jones (captain and lieutenant respectively) a special word of praise was due. Both had worked exceedingly hard to have the girls ready for the occasion.

In concluding, the hope was expressed that at no distant date there would be a similar function in connection with the Boy Scout movement. After the proceedings a dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies, assisted by the Guides.
