NINETY-FOUR APPLICATIONS FINALLY DEALT WITH.
ONE OF THE NINE SECTIONS GOES TO LEVIN RESIDENT.
TWO TO PALMERSTON PEOPLE
The Central Development Farm no longer exists as such, but is now a group of State leasehold dairy farms, ranging in area between 60 and 70 acres. The ballot was conducted on Wednesday in the De Luxe Hall, Levin, by the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr 11. W. C. Mackintosh) and his assistants from the District Lands Office (Messrs Macaulay, Christie and Fleming), with Messrs H. M. Hey ward and John Stevenson as scrutineers. The even) caused a good deal of interest in town, there being quite an influx of visitors, -as the applicants numbered iCB. At 10 a.m. the Land Board, comprising flic Commissioner and Messrs A. Ste"vart, James Georgetti, L. T. Daniell and C. Burnett, assembled at the hall, and commenced the examination of applicants, a process which lasted all day. The number who went to the ballot,'in the evening,' was 94. This commenced at 7.30 p.m. and lasted for two hours, and it was witnessed by quite a large audience, the applicants and spectators making up a gathering of about two hundred. The result of the ballot will be to ; bring two settlers from Palmerston and one each from the Wanganui County, Feilding, New Plymouth,- Greytown, the Main Trunk, and Hawera, while one of the successful applicants is. a Levin resident, Mr C. Amos, of Victoria Street. The land is available immediately, and doubtless the new settlers will be interested in the clearing sale "of surplus stock, farm implements, household furnishings, and buildings for removal, at the Farm to-day. Following are the results of the ballot:—
Section 1, about 64 acres, capital value, £3900; buildings, £855, include dwelling, cow-shed grain store, and implement shed; eastern side of farm — Mr, Claude Amos, Levin. Section 2, about 66 acres; capital value, £3900; eastern side of farm— Mr J. L. Thomas, Okoia, Wanganui, Section 3, about 64 acres; capital value, £3650; south eastern corner of farm—Mr John L. Meynell. Kimbolton Road, Feilding. Section 4, about- 63 acres; capital value, £3550; southern end of farm — Mrs H.,,M. Fogden, Mill Road, New Plymouth. Section 5, about 64 acres; capital value, £3500. south-western corner of farm—Mrs A. J. Joblin, Greytown. Section 6, about 67 acres; capital value, £3700; buildings comprise dwelling and outbuilding; western side ai farm—Mr Chas. Brickland, Ohotu, Main Trunk.
Section 7, about 71 acres; capital value; £4200; buildings, £llBO, include dwelling, pig-styes, boiler-house, calfpen, and cow hospital; central portion of farm —Mr Win. O'Donnell,. Botanical Eoad, Palmerston North. Section 8. about 67 acres; capital value, £3800; north-western corner of farm—Mr Wm. Whelan, Ketemarae Road, Hawera. Section 9, about 64 acres; capital value, £3800; buildings, £750, comprise dwelling and washhouse —Mr I. D. Parsons, Wood Street, Palmerston North. .
