WOMAN HAULED ABOARD UPSIDE DOWN.

SYDNEY, June 29,

When the Union Steam Ship Company's liner Maheno left for New Zealand ports at noon yesterday, passengers and those on the wharf were given a thrill.

The "Visitors ashore! " call had been sounded, the plank lowered, and the whistle had blown, when a young woman sprinted down the wharf to see the space between the boat and the wharf slowly widening. But she didn't miss the boat. Two enterprising firemen on the lower deck,' seeing her plight, threw a rope to her, which she caught, and was hauled up the side of the steamer. A tarpaulin was in position on the side of the deck, and to crawl under this the young woman was forced to stand on her head before she got right on board.
