Mr G. A. Hanson, an orange grower from California, who arrived in Auckland recently after visiting the Pacific Islands, was interested to learn that steps are being taken towards the greater development of the citrus fruitgrowing industry. It was a business that entailed a fair outlay of capital, but the profits warranted the expenditure. The annual cost of upkeep of a Califomian orange grove was about £SO an acre, but once a grove was in full production its value was about £BOO per acre. Mr Hanson expressed the opinion that the Island planters would do well to study the scientific methods of cultivation thatLwere now in operation in California.
