LEVIN-MARTON DEVIATION.
LETTER FROM PRIME MINISTER,
Some time ago the Foxton Chamber of Commerce Avrote to .the Prime Minister, endorsing his action in discontinuing the Palmerston North railway deviation and suggesting that, the time avas now opportune for him to give serious consideration to the matter of linking up the Alain Trunk line between Marton and Levin. At Thursday night’s meeting the Prime Minister replied as follows: “I am very pleased to learn that the Foxton Chamber of Commerce endorses the action of the Government in discontinuing operations a - : the Palmerston North deviation. In the face of the Avhole facts of the ease the Government avould certainly not have been justified in taking any other course. I note that the Chamber requests that consi deration be given to the question or’ linking up the main trunk line btween Greatford and Lfivin, and I shall be glad to bring the representations made in this connection under the notice of the Hon. the Minister for Public Works for his attention and consideration. I am afraid that I will not have an early opportunity of visiting Foxton, but should the opportunity present itself I shall be only too pleased to meet the residents of your district-.” The letter Avas received.
