HOROWHENUA RUGBY COUNCIL
WEEKLY MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council was held at Levin on Tuesday. Present: Messrs Hannan (chairman), McGill, Mevcr, Maclean, Robinson, Mitcliell Richards, and Casey (secretary). Apologies from absent members were received. Correspondence was read from the Dannevirke Union relative to the Bebbington Shield, suggesting a conference be held at Palmerston North on July 20th to discuss matters in connection therewith. It was hoped that the Horowlienua Council would be repre-sented.-—Mr. Hannan appointed to attend.
The Dannevirke Union also wrote suggesting that the Shield game. be held on the same day as the thirdgrade rep. match. —Decided to play on July 20th at Levin. Dr. Milne wrote stating that S. Dickinson’s injuries, received in .the Maori-Pakeha match consisted of severe sprain and that he would be incapacitated for tw'o weeks.—Received, it being stated that the player was insured.
The Oriental Club (Wellington) wrote that Wehipeihana, over whom Otaki juniors had protested, had played senior in the City. After discussion it, was decided to allow the decision of the Council to stand, it being stated that Wehipeihana , had been classified .as junior on account of injuries. Exception was taken to' members of the Maori-Pakeha match no't handing in their jerseys after the game, and it was stated that No. 10 was missing It was agreed that unless players handed in their jerseys they would be dealt with, while there was a likelihood of their being dropped from representative games; The matter, however, will be further discussed next meeting, in the meantime it is hoped that jerseys missing would ,be returned. It was reported that Woods and Thomson, of the Eoxton team, were injured in their match with Otaki on Saturday. 1 It was agreed that the “B” rep. players on Saturday change at the Albion Hotel, and that the “A” players change at Moynihan’s. Mr. Robinson was appointed manager of the Horowlienua “A” team and Mr. Mitchell as manager of the “B” team. It was reported that the proceeds of the Maori-Pakeha match at Otaki, despite the heavy rain, amounted to £5 Is and that the junior match, Otaki v. Hui Mai on Saturday returned. 'a similar amount. At Levin the junior (gate was £1 ss, while at Manakau the senior game raised £2 9s. A notice of motion was given .by the chairman that the motion ordering the re-playing of the Wandcrer-Foxton mat oh be rescinded.' , ' '• It was decided not to hold a Council meeting next Tuesday. At last night’s Council meeting Mr. Robinson referred to the difference between the qualities of jerseys, stating that those who played in cotton ones in the Maori-Pakeha match were miserable objects when they emerged from the field while those in woollen ones, he considered, had an advantage of ten points. He never wanted to see cotton jerseys worn again. Oni Saturday at Shannon Manawatsi “A” and “B” \HII play Horowhcnua “A” and “B” and good games should result. The first .game will commence at 1.30 and the second at 2.50 p.m. Admission will be Is 6d for men, Is foi ladies. ■ '
