To clean saucepans after cooking oatmeal in them, fill them with boiling water, empty thorn, and fill with cold water . The porridge-remains will almost fall away from the sides.
If you wish to be quite sure that your coffee is perfectly pure, sprinkle a small quantity on the surface of n tumbler of water. . Pure coffee floats. The adulterated article sinks to the bottom and discolours the water. This is a simple but effective test. Coffee grounds, incidentally, make an excellent disinfectant f-or cleaning the
sink. To whiten kitchen tables and shelves there is nothing to equal this mixture; Half a pound of sand, half a pound of soft soap and a quarter of a pound of lime. Work all together into a paste. Apply it with a scrubbing brush, and wash it off with plenty of clean water. Regular treatment in this manner ensures immaculate whiteness.
If your oven capriciously refuses to brown anything, throw a small handful of sugar on the hottest part and shut the oven quickly. Do this just before the food is ready to come out of the oven, and you will be delighted with the result.
