PRESIDENT’S REPORT. • The president (Mrs H. .Clifford Jones) reported as follows: — Ladies and Gentlemen. —In submitting a report of the work of the Plunket Society covering the last twelve ■months it gives me much pleasure in being able u> state that excellent progress has been made since the last annual meeting. The figures quoted in the Nurse’s report should be sufficient ■ proof of this. 'The very fact that there has. been a steady increase in the number of babies receiving. treatment shows that the ■ mothers have Confidence in the Plunket system. As well as gaining the confidence of the •mothers we have their appreciation, ■also for the opening of the box in March last resulted in £3 2s in donations, a decided increase as compared with amounts taken previously. A series of Card Parties was held last winter to augment funds, but one could hardly call them money-making affairs. Still they brought in small amounts, and kept the work before the public. A most successful GardenParty and Baby Show . was hold iu February last, over £lB being collect ■ed, thereby enabling us to meet all 'obligations up to the present /month. A most gratitfying feature of the Garden Party was the generous response on the part of the public, thus show-1 ing practical sympathy with the movement. It was necessary to find anbther room, the one previously used being most unsuitable for Plunket. work. We now rent a small building which is a decided improvement on ■the old one and much appreciated by Nurse Norris and the mothers. We have again put in" an for a grant from the McCarthy Trust and lif successful hope to make a few, additions as regards the furnishing of the room, thereby adding to its Comfort. Last- year we received from the McCarthy Trust a grant of £25. In July last I had the honour to be your official delegate to the Biennial Conference held in Wellington a leport 'of which I gave you at a special meeting held on my return. Although almost a vear ago I still feel the “thrill” of what to me was a very wonderful event. During the year we lost the services of Mrs J. S. Spencer, who had 'acted as Hon.. secretary and treasurer since the inception of the Society. We .'all regretted her departure from Shannon as she wa3 a very enthusiastic as well as capable member. We have been holding committee meetings every two months. Attendances have been better and members more keen — another stage of progress. Nurse Norris continues to visit Shannon one day a week and her services are highly ■appreciated by all. I wish to. thank iall who have assisted thq Society in any way. I realise very fully that tlie success of any thing depends much on those behind the chair and in this ■respect I am fortunate. I beg to fender my warmest thanks to my committee for their support and loyalty. GENERAL. It was decided 1o write to the Horowhenua County Council also the Shannon Borough Council for a grant so as to assist this humane work. The Society wishes to thank the following for kindness and assistance received during the past year:—Mr Roach for providing the nurse with lunch free of charge; Mr King for cartage; the Women’s Institute lor use of room, and Th? Press.
