SHANNON BOY SCOUTS.

A public meeting was held in the Shannon Council Chambers on Wednesday evening to make arrangements in connection with the forming of a Boy Scout troop for Shannon and district. There was a good attendance •of ladies and gentlemen, Mr J. T. Bovis presiding. Mr Bass, who has been the prime mover in the movement, gave an interesting address on the aims and objects of the movement and also the procedure necessary for the formation Jof committee, etc.

The following were then elected a Committee with power to add: Eev. A. J. Farnell, Messrs E. Butt, 11. C. Jones, H. J. Fell, B. J. S. Brann, J. E. Armes, C. M. Cronquest, P. W.Bass and B. F. Tayler. Mr E, Butt was 'elected chairman of the committee; Mr J. E. Armes, honorary secretary, and Mr J. T. Bovis, lion, treasurer.

Messrs Butt, Bass, Brann and Fell were appointed a committee to make enquiries regarding a suitable hall for the boys to meet in and report to next meeting. It was resolved that a one shilling levy be made on the committee for initial expenses. Monday night was suggested as the most siutable night for practice. Eev. Mr Farncll very kindly placed at the disposal of the troop his military knowledge, for which he was accorded a very hearty vote of thalc3. Mr Bass was appointed temporary Scoutmaster, and Mr B. F. Tavler, temporary assistant Scoutmaster. The Secretary was instructed to arrange, if possible, for a representative from the Palmerston North Boy Scout; troop to visit Shannon and give an address. ,

A letter from the Shannon Girl Guides Committee offering to assist as soon as the Girl Guides are on a sound basis, was received, it being resolved to thank them for their kindly thought and also for promised assistance.
