MAORILAND THEATRE.
RICHARD BARTHELMBSS'S LATEST. A motley crew of underworld types appears in the East Side cafe set which plays an important part iii tha story of "The Wheel ot* Chance," the latest Richard Ba4thclmess picture coming to the Maoriland Theatre on Saturday. One of the most picturesque characters was a man who must _ remain nameless. He ■ was at one time a well-known habitue of Los Angeles' half-world and was once a dope fiend. Another interesting type was the piano player on the set who played a similar role in real.life years ago in the notorious "Sewer Cafe" of Lo? Angeles. ; Several ex-pugilists, convicts, wharf rats, etc., make up the bulk of the type used in this colourful sequence.
"IF I WERE SINGLE. '» Myrna Loy, one of screeiidom's most exotic beauties, portrays a principal supporting role in "If I Were Single," the Warner-Master Picture attraction co-starring May McAyoy and Conrad Nagel, to be shown on Monday. The role again brings Miss Loy to the screen in a "vamping" part, and incidentally follows closely after her completion of the leading feminine role opposite Nagcl in the underworld story, "The Girl from Chicago." In this, however, she is shown as the ruthless pursuer of Nagel, who finds that his marriage to Miss McAvoy is more or less of a handicap to his penchant for flirtation. The story with the difficulties of a newly-wed pair—Miss McAvoy and Nagel—forming the hub.
