AFTER BIG GAME.
LEVIN RESIDENT LEAVING FOR CENTRAL AFRICA. ACCOMPANIED BY WELLINGTON MAN. ' A resident of Levin who has been noted for his life-long interest in' sport, and who is the local representative of the Acclimatisation Society, Mr C. H. Bould, leaves by ti-ain for Wellington this afternoon on the first stage of a trip to Central Africa, where, with Mr A. Sligo, of Wellington, who has long been a game-shooter in New Zealand, it is his intention to carry out a hunting expedition that will" last from two and a-half to three months. The sportsmen will sail by •the Ulimaroa on Friday for Sydney, and will leave there on June 10th by the Themistocles for" Durban, where they expect to arrive on July Bth. From Durban will travel by rail as far north" as the train will take them —a journey lasting about four days and nights. Thereafter they will proceed by motor for over a hundred miles, following which they will have a trip, lasting a fortnight, along tributaries of "the Zambesi, ir. native •canoes. They will then go to the property of a Mr Simpson, who has a rubber factory, and who will equip them with from' thirty to forty native carrieis. T-ie more serious part of the .business will ensue, with the expedition on foot, lasting up to three •months. The country which it is proposed to hunt over abounds in animal life in great variety, among the land genera being the elephant, jion, panther, leopard, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, buffalo, and antelope of more than 20 species, ranging from a creature only the size of a hare to one bigger than •a cow. In the rivers and lagoons crocodiles are plentiful, while the denizens of the air are of a great manty 1 kinds. The African trip will practically cover the route taken by Messrs H. Hart and V. Donald, of Masterton, in 1927. The equatorial region will be reached in the dry season, as the rains do not start till October. The actual shooting season opens about the •Ist of August.
Mr Bould hopes to be back in Levin at the end of November or early in 'the following month. His many friends will wish him, as well as his companion, a safe and successful tour.
