WHY GIRLS ARE HEALTHIE
At a (gathering of headmasters ij England, Mr E. T. England, of Owen’ School, said: —"There are in Englan several excellent colleges for wome specialist teachers in physical training but there is not a single one for men That is very odd, and the reason fo this curious neglect is that it has bee: assumed that a boy’s health is.adc quatcly safeguarded by games. Look iug at the young women as camparci with the .young jnen in employment no\ and contrasting them with their pro docessors 20 years ago, it will be seei that there is/ now. a certain . differenc between the sexes that was not ther then. "Twenty years ago physical edu cation for girls was scandalously nc glected. The need was great, and the; proceeded to meet it. It was not si great with the boys, and' so it ha never been met. I suggest that th enormous; improvement'in the -health; dioss of women has been influenced bj their phy-sical training mistresses, am I have no sympathy whatever with at tacks on women’s costumes. There i a very great difference in the modem young woman’s carriage. / The dres ol young men is not as healthy or a beautiful as that of young women, am modern .young \%omcn carry thcmselve much better than modern young men Physical training, of young boys is no as good as that of their sisters, am there is not a sufficient Humber of ex pert teachers.”
