LUXURY FLATS
In a typical West End luxury flat every bedroom has hot water in constant supply, states a London writer. The rooms are floored and panelled with wood, so that they seem to be furnished when a table and a few chairs are added. Thanks to a constant supply of electricity vacuumcleaning is possible in any room at any time. The maid has only to attach her vacuum-cleaner to a socket in the wall and the dirt vanishes as by magic, into some unseen ashpit at the bottom ,of the block; whither the refuse from the kitchen is also sent bjr a special chute. Each .flat has its own refrigerator, and, to counterbalance the popularity of the gramophone and wireless loud-speakers, every wall is sound-proof Electric washers and special service lifts from the front door to the kitchen are other aids welcomed by the servants. Washing-up after a meal and “answering the door,“ are robbed of most of their terrors. It is not even necessary to leave the flat to post a letter. Letters are disposed of through a chute, connected with a postal box, serving the whole block of flats.
