HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
SOUTHERN DISTRICT MATTERS. The following business' relating to the southern portion of the Horowhenua County was transacted at the monthly meeting of the (Council on Saturday: , 1 . Undermined Fence. Mr. H. A. Lumsden, Te Horo, wrote in further reference to his complaint of a .fence having been undermined on his property through the • Council’s quarrying operations on Mangaone Road.. He considered «the Council’s offer of £3 quite inadequate to repair the fence, and therefore he declined to accept it. He had been put to considerable inconvenience through this fence being undermined, and he expected the Council to immediately repair it, also to keep it repaired in the future at their own expense. •. It was. resolved, on the motion of Cr. Jensen, seconded by the chairman, that the engineer Be instructed to interview Mr. Lumsden, with power . to' act. , 1 , Manga-One Road. Mr. S. Bolton, Paluatua, wrote aclc uowledging receipt of the Council’s letter calling on him to remove the old tramway laid by the Campbell Sawmilling Co. on the portion of the Mangaone Road giving access to Section 2, Block VII, Kaitawa S.D., and to restore the road to a reasonable state of repair. In reply, Mr. Bolton stated that sections 11 and 12 wqre his freehold. Mr. Campbell and others had had cutting rights over them, and he pressed that when Mr. Campbell put down the tramway (if ho did), a number of years ago, he had some sort of consent from the local body, or else he would have' been told to remove them. The writer was in no way concerned in the matter. -The chairman moved that the letter be received and this was carried.
Request to Lay a Water-pipe.
Mi*. John Fielding, Te Horo, wrote asking for permission to run a fin pipe under the Te Waka Road, across from his cow-yard to a Maori section of 50 acres. The latter had no water for stock, and he had been asked to supply it, and, subject to the Council’s permission he had decided to do so.
Or. Jensen moved that the matter the referred to the engineer, ivith power tc act.
The motion was seconded by Cr Ryder, and carried.
Manakau South.
With reference to the letter fron Mr. J. Corbett, Manakau South, to tin last meeting,, calling attention to th< bad state of the road leading nortl from the corner of Mr. Monk’s, Mana ka.u South, Cr. Bryant reported tha he, had -inspected this piece of road in company -with the engineer, and ha j seen Mr. Corbett, and the matter woull be fixed up satisfactorily. I
