HOROWHENUA COUNTY POLL.

Contest for Wirokino Hiding. Messrs Catley, Colquhoun and GbMett Elected. The triennial elections of the County Councils throughout New Zealand were held yesterday. In the Horowhenua County there are four ridings, and in the cases of Otaki and Te Horo there were no contests, the sitting members being re-elected, as follows: — OTAKI RIDING: Henry George Bryant and Frederick James Ryder. - TE HORO RIDING : George Alexander Monk and Christen Pedersen Jensen. For the Tokomaru riding a separate election has been rendered necessary, as only one nomination was received—that of John Russell Whyte, one of the sitting members—whereas there were two vacancies to be filled. Subsequent to the declaration of an extraordinary vacancy, two candidates —Henry Barber (sitting member) and R. W. Taylor—were nominated, and an election will take place on Tuesday, May 21st. The contest for the three Wirokino seats was fought yesterday, between four candidates, and as a result a new Councillor makes his appearance, Alex. M. Colquhoun replacing William E. Kilsby. Voting proceeded steadily throughout the day at the five polling booths. The arrangements were very satisfactory, under the direction of the Returning Officer, Mr F. H. Hudson, and his deputies, and the final returns were posted up at the County office in Levin within two hours of the closing of the poll. Keen interest on the part of the ratepayers is shown by the total number of votes cast, 1115. There are on the roll of the riding 610 ratepayers, who possess the right of from one to jthree votes according to the valuations of their properties. For the County representation on the Horowhenua Power Board and the Palmerston North Hospital Board there were no contests, the sitting representatives being re-elected, as follows: POWER BOARD: George Alexander Monk, Alfred Seifert, and Thomas Gaius Vincent. HOSPITAL BOARD : Sam Atkinson Broadbelt, George Philip Catley, and Frederick James Ryder. Following are the details of the Wirokino riding poll ‘ of yesterday:—
