POWER AND LIGHT.

STEADY GROWTH OF DEMAND DEMONSTRATED.

It was reported to the Horowhenua Power Board by the engineer (Mr. J". A. Smith), on Tuesday, that during the past month 15 applications from new consumers and 22 applications for extensions to existing installations were received, comprising two ranges, three milking motors, two Industrial motors, and two water-heaters. Eleven pew consumers and 25 extensions liatl been connected, including three ranges, one water-heater, two milking motors and five industrial motors—a total of 50.56 k.w. Five community lights had been installed, bringing the number up to 55. The globes and fittings of the pther' lamps had been cleaned; The chairman (Mr. G. A. Monk) commented on the satisfactory growth of the business. He said that some of the older members would recollect that, when the Board started operations, it was assumed that it would be quite a paying concern when the connected consumers reached 3000, which had been looked upon as the maximum of which the district was capable. Now the number" of consumers was 2984, and fresh applications would bring the figure to 3023. What the Board had aspired to, had come to pass, and it ihad been able, out of the revenue it made in the last two years, to pay its way. The forecast had been that of Mr. Overton, the Board 's first engineer, and it showed how nearly a man in that position could calculate the possibilities of a district and what it could produce. It was very pleasing to the speaker,to know that Mr...Overton's forecast had been so well borne out. 1 Analysis of Connected Load.
