FOOTBALL.
The first of the cup fixtures this season will commence on Saturday, when the Shannon seniors will meet Weraroa at Levin and the Shannon juniors will play Weraroa juniors at Shannon.
The following will represent the Shannon seniors:—Warman, Guy, Picard, Robbie, Goodwin, McKenzie, Walls, L. Daizell, Moody, Prat. L , Robbie, Satherley, Johanna, Williams, N. Daizell. Emergencies: W. Gray, Vertongen and K. Daizell. All players must be present, including emergencies. i ,
The following will represent the Weraroa Juniors against Shannon at IShannon to-morrow: —Ward, Hobson, Smith, Brown, Laing, Walton, Reihana, Wilson, Ripon, King, Chambers, Webb, Jones, Paki,'Roe.
OPENING OP SEASON. The 1929 Rugby season in . Horowhenua will be opened on Saturday, when there will be a full list of attractions, allotted to the various centres. A new contest, which will arouse much interest, is that which will be held for the McLennan Challenge Cup, for competition amongst senior teams. The trophy has been awarded to Weraroa who will defend it against Shannon on Saturday. Challenges for the trophy will be played ou the home ground only of any club holding the trophy. The fixtures for Saturday have been drawn as under:
Wanderers v. Foxton, at Foxton; Weraroa (Holders) v. Shannon (Challengers), at Levin, for McLennan Challenge Cup; Hui Mai v. Otaki at Manakau.
Junior. —Wanderers v. Foxton, at Weraroa; Weraroa v. Shannon, at Shannon; Hui Mai v. Otaki, at Otaki; Waikanae v. Paraparaumu, at Waikanae.
Thirds.—Tokiomaru v. Shannon, at Tokomaru; Foxton v. Weraroa, at Prouse's, Levin. ■
