EASTER HOLIDAY RACING.

FEILDING, AUCKLAND AND wll', RARAPA REVIEWS. (By *• Silken Rein.”) The opening of the Feildiug Jockey Club’s Easter fixture is scheduled to take place at Feilding on Saturday, the second day’s racing being held on (Estst-er Monday. The acceptances received for this meeting are quite good in respect of numbers and from point of view of class, they are in Keeping with the importance of the fixture. The. principal race on the opening day is the Manchester Handicap and the second important event is the Manfgaone Handicap. Both of these fields ’have comfortable numbers and make for interesting racing. The first race is timed to start at iI.SO a.m. Kawa Kawa Hurdles. Despite his big impost, *in the hurdles Locarno will carry the bulk of the money. Airtight . (last year’s winner ( Royal Acre and Red Bank have fairly good recent form while Sir Monrent races well when fresh and is Jikely to put up' a good performance if the going is in his favour. Onward should make a welcome addition to .the ranks and Fair One is a i miner who will turn up with a good price shortly. The favoured, pair will probably be Locarno and Royal Acre. Onga Hack. /

There is a good deal of form about runners in the Onga Hack and it is likely to prove a difficult race for speculators. All those who are weighted above the minimum are deserving of some consideration and the result should be a good price. Airway, Inflame, White Ringlet, Bank bote and Richfield will be all fairly well supported and of the collection preference may be shown for Inflame Bank Note. \ Manchester Handicap. „

There are eight acceptors in the principal event. Star Area should be ■ good enough to win in this field. ■Merry Damon lias a third for recommendation but will not appeal, perhaps, as will Gold Cure who has performed really well at times. This distance however. may trouble him. a little. Joy Bird’s turn is due while ■Manly is a distinct possibility, but has a later engagement. Orazone and Briar Root are fair performers, while Avro, if lie has recovered from the Juiock received at Wanganui, will prove hard to dispose of. When performances are compared, the pair selected will be Star Area and Joy Bird. Maiden Stakesl.

With a field of twenty-two in the maiden race, it will undoubtedly, be the luckiest horse that wins. Placings have been credited to Wine Tray, Naselle.i Clover Leaf, Gambler, Grafton, Aral, Rillett, Warzone and Malaliat. Habit, is a fairly good 2-year-ola that should improve, while Wine Tray, who has not raced since he changed hands, is a really good /sort. He -finished fourth behind Atholspear, Billion and Paquito on the middle day of the Januarjf. meeting. The Tea Tray gelding will; race on Saturday under the colours of Mr F. F. Newman of Koputaroa. On account of his lack of recent form he will probably suffer neglect. The forrii trio are Malahat, Warzone and Grattan. ,

•Onepuhi Hack Handicap. The most consistent runner in this event is Thrift, raid being from a prosperious stable there will be plenty of money for the Warplane filly. She c-an, at least, be relied upon to give of her best. Aurora Borealis is a possibility on Awapuni running and it -is near time Kawhakina came to the fore. A second in nine starts is his j-ecord for this season and lie should do better than that. Perhaps Thrift and Kawhakina will justify support. Mangaone Handicap. , The mixture of form in the second leg makes it a bit of a puzzle. Ridgemount’s form at Awapuni was far below his best and it is difficult to account for his indifferent display. He may do better on Saturday. Dobbin is in bis best form and beat Benzora at a difference of 231 b at Awapuni. They will be closer at Feilding if weight goes for anything, the latter being better off by 91b. Royal Da.mon’s third at Rangitikei makes him likely. The Raider and Limited did not do too well at Awapuni but both are improving. Kedclar would only need to reproduce his Wellington first day form to be hard to dispose of. In a good betting race, there will be a share'of support for- The Raider aiid Limited. ' Ta-onui Hack Handicap.

The failures of ’Desert Laid have come as surprises as lie has shown that he is a good galloper. He may have just been unlucky and it should be a fairly easy race for him in this event. -Lack'of winning form will tell against him and probably most money will be found for War fill e and Patearoa.

Halcombe Handicap. A six horse race in the concluding •event will give punters confidence in effecting a recovery. There is the possibility of Manly preferring his earlier engagement and in his likely absence in this event Vivo and Discourse read a likely pair.

GOOD FIELDS AT AUCKLAND. The Auckland Racing Club’s Easter meeting will open at Ellerslie oii Saturday and conclude on Monday. Excellent acceptances have been leceived for the opening day and the racking promises to be of interesting order. The principal event set down for decision on Saturday is the Easter

Handicap of 1 mile, while the Gre Northern Champagne Stakes and t. 'Great Northern Oaks are also even %f‘much importance. It is to be hop 'that the Club will be favoured wi .ft substantial increase in totalisat investments to make up the deficien on their last meeting. Presidents Handicap.

The first event of 1| miles has a fh of sixteen due to start and the wi ner is well concealed. If the going at- all in his favour Corinax will ta a lot of beating, while Toxeuma w have to be considered. The Ami ; smith gelding’s special mission will the St. Leger and a win on the fii 'day will not carry ..any penalty. T ‘size of this field, however, is-like to Houble Toxeuma. The 1 ace at pi sent is very open, but a pair tb •have good claims for support s Queen Arch ami Corinax. /

Great Northern Oaks. Nino fillies have paid up for tl •one and a-half mile event and of the recent form has been shown by E tuscha, Lucy Rose and Llanore. T best of this trio is perhaps Llano Lucy Rose who won the Shaw Memj ial but was disqualified for find weight looks a like stayer,. Prod is a real good cue and performam are in her favour. . It will probal be left to Prodice and Llanore. Brighton Hurdles. The fact that the good winners last season, Beau Cavalier, Kawini a Wiltshire have no recent winning fo to recommend them in the two m hurdle rase they may be passed over favour of the form runners, Ramb Kid and Glenotus. Easter Handicap. The principal event of one mile 1 drawn, sixteen runners and compri some good class performers. Brans is in pride of place and as he is hardy and consistent sort he sho have a good "chance in this ra Bright Glow is one that will be nit in favour while Royal Doulton 1 claims for support. A mile should s •Flying Juliet, White Fang and In Shade. The latter won it last y< from Awarere and paid a sensatio price. King Lu is probably in n< of a race. Of the others Kingfield £ Vallar will apeal most. The f that she ran second in the Tliompi Handicap, Bright Glow will be mi in favour, but the bourse may : suit her. In that case the best p may be Branson and Flying Juliet.

Champagne Stakes,

While a surprise is quite likely this event for two-year-olds, the m ority of speculators will pin their fa on Supremacy and Gay Balleirina. Mangere Steeples. Vexatious and Polyphemus are be tried over the country tand it \ be interesting to see how they 1 1 jto it. The recommendation of Pc anui are best, but on the running Ohinemuri a pair that are prefer) are Star of the East and Master Ar

Onslow Stakes. The first six on the list repress the best of the runners engaged this event, the only likely one outs of them is Bennie. Royal Finance 1 disappointed but Lis chance <may co to-morrow. On form, however, the f: oured pair will probably be Cur jong and. Carl Idem. Eden Handicap. The concluding event will not comforting for those seeking a reci ery and the betting will take a wi range. In the final sorting out 1 trio selected may be Brampton, So Lady and Envoy. WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB. The first day of the Wairarapa R Easter meeting will also be Held Saturday. The maiden stakes whi commences at 11.30 a.m. Has ve litte form among its big field. Tl bridge and Streamer may prove i best. * A likely pair in the Mokai Ha are Rabbi and Volplane. The Railway Handicap promises interesting race in which Royal Du and Veronese should perform well. There is a big field in the Nurse Handicap and on Awapuni form Hui ing Boy and Hot Springs will be pi ferred. The principal event has drawn eig runners and the best pair may pro to be Tresham and Tcheka. In the Hack mile the positions a pears to rest between Speanrn and Imarosebud. * An eight-horse field in the Marti borough Handicap should be a goi race. Maui and Borsalene are far led. In Ihe concluding event a surpri is likely, but the machine favourit will undoubtedly lie Arikinui and S cond Thought. .
