SHANNON GOLF CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of members of the Shannon Golf Club was hel£ in the" Council Chambers last evening, the President (Mr A. Blackwood) presiding over a good attendance of members.
BALANCE SHEET,
The balance sheet submitted by the secretary showed a balance in hand of £6 19s lid, outstanding subscriptions £5, and a donation of £o from Messrs Stern Bros, being their charge for mowing the green; making a total credit balance of £l6 19s lid to commence the new season with. Messrs Stern Bros, were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their generosity in making a refund for mowing the green. The balance sheet was adopted. PRESIDENT’S REPORT.
The President (Mr A. Blackwood) presented the following report on tlje past season’s work: — Ihe past year was quite successful considering the small membership of the Club. The links were in good order for the most part of the season, especially after the fairways were mowed. . Club matches were played (it home and away against the Levin, Manawatu and Foxton Clubs, all the games being thoroughly enjoyed by all the players. The results of matches were as follows: —
Shannon v. Levin, at Levin, won by Shannon.
Shannon v. Levin, at Shannon, won by Shannon. Shannon v. Manawatu at Shannon, won by Manawatu. Shannon v. Manawatu, at Palmerston, won by Manawatu. Shaunon v. Foxton, at Shannon, tvon by Shannon.
Shannon v. Foxton, at Foxton, won by Shannon. Medal matches were played each month and were won by the following players: —April, A. Saxon and Foxton lady; May, Mrs Saxon, Mr WPKing; June, C. Stern; July, H. Stern and Miss Dillon; August, 11. Jones. Mr Blyth, a member of the club, won the Manawatu Cup at the Hokowhitu links last season, and will bef playing again at Hokowhitu at the Easter Tourney. He is to be congratulated for his prowess. The ladies as usual rolled out in good numbers and provided the afternoon teas, which were very much appreciated. The greens superintendent, Mr A. Saxon, did splendid work during the season and always had the greens in good order for the day’s play. The thanks of the Club are due to the owners of the properties we played on, they helping in every way to make the •play apperciated by all. The Messrs Stern Bros., who are very active members of the Club, and the Messrs Easton, are the friends who have made it possible for the Club to continue, and who, I believe, have a selieine in hand that will be of great benefit to the .Club during the coming year. The thanks of the Club are due to the services rendered by your energetic secretary, Air A. 11. Morgan, who always has' the welfare of the Club at heart. 1 wish also to record the thanks of the ■Club to Air 11. C. Jones, our club captain, who worked very hard for the club. The committee of ladies and .gentlemen must also be thanked for their assistance during the season and thanks are due to the Press for assistance in giving publicity to the Cluo .affairs.
The Club suffered severe losses in membership in that one of our oldest members, Air Bert Spencer, died during the past season after a very severe illness. Air Spencer did yoeman work ,for the Club and was a most energetic committee man, a man the Club could ill afford to lose. Messrs F. Alurray, J. Gagliardi, and T. Shannon have left the district, each of these gentlemen especially Mr Gagliardi, were valued members we could ill afford to lose. I trust that the members will do all they can to build up the Club membership this year and sincerely hope .that the coming season will be a prosperous and happy one.—Adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing season: —President, Mr A. Blackwood (re-elected); vice-presi-dent, Mr W. B. King; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. H. Morgan (re-elect-ed); club captain, Mr 11. C. Jones (reelected; handicappcrs, Captain and Secretary; committee, President, vicepresident, ISecretary, Captain,,-' aiwl Messrs 11. and C. Stern, W. McKenzie, W. Goodwin, and J. D. Campbell; ladies’ committee, Misjs Sinclair, _ Mrs Orcnquest, Mrs Moynihau, Miss Dillon, Miss Jones, Mrs C. Easton, Mrs A. Saxon, Mrs Morgan, Miss Rankin; ground supervisor, Mr A. Saxon, reappointed, subject to his -approval. SUBSCRIPTION FEES.
It was decided that the subscription ices be the same as last year, viz., Gents 25/-, ladies 10/-, with the exception that girls under 18 years be 7/G. HONORARY MEMBERS. Messrs H. and C. Stern and Mr 11. -Easton were elected honorary members for the ensuing season. NEW MEMBERS.
The following aiew members were ■nominated: —Messrs J. T. Bovis, Stevenson, T. Ingley, J. D. Campbell, J. 'Ostler, Pedersen sen., A. H. Mason, (Pedersen, jun., Mclntosh, and Todd; ,Mrs Pedersen, sen., Misses Watters, Pedersen, Todd, Camp and Stern. OPENING DAY.
It was decided that the Club’s open •ing day be Saturday, 13th April.
GENERAL
It was resolved that the committee go over the course as soon .as possible with a view to getting it prepared. •The committee were also empowered to purchase any new material that may be required during the season. It was decided to hold a social and dance sometime during the month of ■May. The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
