THE RUGBY GAME.

MEETING OF WANDERERS CLUB. THE PAST SEASON. The annual meeting of the Wanderers' JFootball Club was held in Mr ' W. Wilkinson's rooms on Monday evening. jThere was an attendance of about 30 members, and Mr Lin McDonald presided. In his annual report, the secretary referred in the first place to the splendid result of the shop day held by the .ladies. He went on to speak of the "work done by the coaches of the teams. Mr Len Ingram had again looked after the seniors and eared for their bag, a duty which he had undertaken for a number of years past. Unfortunately he would be unable to carry on the coach's duties'in the future. The club highly appreciated the manner in which he had discharged the duties of an onerous task. Mr Ingram had also to be thanked for having ar- . ranged for the washing of the jerseys every/ Saturday;. ■ 'Country clubs ■depended more on an officer like Mr Ingram than on probably anybody else in the club. The senior team had been held together by iMr Ingram; and the work of any committee amounted to very little as compared with the work he ihad carried out. Similar duties had been efficiently done by Mr R. Watt lor the third grade team. He had-not been able to continue the dut- ". jcs tor the whole of the season, but the team had been, imbued with the proper spirit and they ended the season with a fine record. Mr D. Ta(tana had been a worthy successor of Mr H. Jacob as captain of the club 'iteam, also of the Jdorowhenua aiid Manawhenua rep. teams. Bjoth the club and the reps, were extremely for- , tunate in having such a fine player at their head, ana his record was noied with great satisfaction. .The club record for 1928 was as follows: Senior championship won. Matches —Played 7, won 6, lost 1, drawn 0; points 12. Wash (Jup competition: Played 4, won 0, lost 4. Third grade: Played 12, won 8, lost 3, drawn 1; points 17. Ruaners-up for northern division. Won seven a-side tournament at Dannevirke. The balance sheet showed that the year was started with a credit balance of £1 lite 6d; donations amounted to £8 5s 6d, the shop day yielded ■ £3l 18s, subscriptions &i 17s bd,. and refund from the District Council £1 Is. The expenditure totalled £4B Is 6d, leaving a credit balance of £1 Is 9d. The principal items on the expenditure side were £ll 17s for jerseys and £8 paid to the District Council. MATCH* AGAINST HUTT. •The secretary reported that the Hutt club had been seeking a game with some of the Levin clubs, and would only be able to' get a match {with Wanderers. '(He jhad consequently promised a game for Easter Saturday, at Levin. Arrangements for the match were left in rhe hands of the management committee. INCREASED SUBSCRIPTION TO COVER JERSEYS, The opinion was expressed by the secretary that a stage had been reached when the club should cease supplying the players' Jerseys as this revolved too much of a drain pn its resources, and moreover the club now had no way of looking after the jerseys. / Replying to a question by Mr Casey as to the number of jerseys in hand, Mr Ingram stated that there were about twenty, of which 18 were new last season.

The secretary suggested that they be offered to the players at half-price. After a discussion it was resolved that the membership feei be raised from 7/6 to 115/-, and that it include the right to a jersey and pair of stoek- ' ings and to insurance under the Council, for which the fee was formerly 2/6.' It was made a condition that each player should 'be responsible for the laundering and <jare of his jersey ''' and stockings. ;" PROPOSED REVISION OF GRADES Notice was received of the forth- * joining annual meeting of the District Council, together with motions to be there relating to grading and insurance. I The first of these motions is a re- ' commendation to come before the of a fourth grade competition by subsidising teams up to the amount of £7 10s for travelling expenses; the age limit to be, 16. years. ,'ln regard to the third grade, the re-

commendation to some before the Council was* that the competition be limited to players who are 19 years of age'or under on April 30th. The secretary explained that this would have the effect of ■loir,g away with the disparity between the north and south portions of the district. Under the existing rules the southern clubs were able to put bigger and olde,r third-grade players in the field than the northern clubs. Mr Watt moved and Mr McDonnell seconded, that the Wanderers' delegates be instructed to move, at the annual meeting of the District Council, that the age limit for third-grade players be 20 years as at April 30th. 'The motion was lost on the voices. INSURANCE. No resolution vas passed in regard to the recommendation concerning inthe object of which is to alter an existing rule of the Council with the object of removing friendly games from the scope of the insurance scheme, which will then be limited to competition or representative matches under the control of the Council. BENEFIT MATCH.. Consideration was given to the question of holding a match amongst players drawn from the Wanderers, Weraroa, Hui Mai and Shannon. Clubs as a benefit for Messrs .H. Jacob and Bob George, the suggestion being that tickets should be sold by the clubs concerned, in it'heir respective parts ■of the. district. It was decided that such a match be held, as soon as possible after Easter, and that representatives of the clubs be consulted with a view to making the necessary arrangements. CLASSIFICATION. The secretary reported that Whyman and H. Jones, late of Wanderers Thirds, had been classified as juniors. A MISSING SHIELD.

Mr Watt wanted to know the whereabouts of the Carnegie Shield; which was won by the. Wanderers'' thirds' team at the seven-a-side tournament at Dannevirke,, last season. "Everyone in the town thinks we are liars because the shield is not here," he remarked, and he suggested that the aid of the New Zealand Rugby Union be called in. Mr Casey said he had written twice to Dannevirke about it lash season, and again a month ago, but had had no reply. However, in a telephone conversation, the secretary of the Dannevirke Sub-Union promised that it would be sent over when it had been inscribed. It appeared that the Shield was previously in the hands of Woodville, and at the time when Wanderers won it the trophy had not been re turned to Dannevirke. Mr Procter said he had been informed that Woodville had been holding the Shield because they wanted a match played for it on their ground. Dannevirke, however, would not accept Woodville's challenge. Mr W. Hannan mentioned that Woodville were in the Manawhenua Union. Mr Watt: They have handed it over to the Dannevirke Union.

A resolution was passed referring the matter to the Horowhenua District Council and requesting them to take steps to recover the Shield. DONATIONS, The following donations were received and gratefully acknowledged:—Mr .Evan Jones, £3 3s; Mr J. W. Rimmer, £2 2s; Mr G. Ramsbotham, £1 Is.
