ADVERTISING HOARDINGS.
LETTER TO COUNTY COUNCIL. The Kairanga County Council at its' meeting on Tuesday received a letter from the Main Highways Board which pointed out that members .of the board, on a recent tour of the North Island, had observed that a number of advertising hoardings had been erected on lands adja, cent to main highways, These hoardings had been erected in most cases at sharp bends in the road, and generally were in such a position as to attract the attention of the Irivers of motor vehicles at a time when great caTe was required to negotiate, the bends. Indeedjin some cases it had been noticed that • the hoardings partly obscured the view of the road. : c "'■■■- Unfortunately, however, neither the Board nor the local authorities had any control over the erection of advertising hoardings on private property and no legal action could be taken. The question, however, required attention and the board considered tnav the best method of dealing with it would be for local bodies to approach automobile associations in an endeavour to arrange that hoardings of this kind should be erected in such a position as would r.oi tend to increase the. risks of motor driving. The council decided to write,to jthe Manawatu and Wellington automobile associations on the lines suggested by the Highways Board.
